New York Metro Area Postal Union, Local 10 Endorses Mark Treyger for City Council (District 47- Coney Island, Sea Gate, Bensonhurst, Gravesend) BROOKLYN- In the race for the 47th Council District in southern Brooklyn, the New York Metro Area Postal Union, Local 10, has endorsed Mark Treyger. Local 10 represents postal clerks, motor vehicle operators, and maintenance workers, and is the largest local in the American Postal Workers Union. Treyger teaches civics at New Utrecht High School in Bensonhurst, and has served as the president of the United Progressive Democratic Club for the past decade. “Mark Treyger is the type of person we need in government. His passion and commitment to the middle class has been exemplified by his track record of building coalitions between community groups and labor to achieve real change,” said President Jonathan Smith of the New York Metro Area Postal Union, APWU. “As a union activist, educator, and community organizer, Mark is exactly the kind of hands-on leader that we need on the City Council. It is our pleasure to endorse Mark Treyger for City Council.” “The men and women of Local 10 work hard each and every day to ensure that our city runs smoothly,” said Treyger. “I am honored by the faith they’ve shown in me and the support they’ve given our campaign. I look forward to working with them as a member of the City Council to ensure that all New Yorkers have access to living wage jobs, affordable housing and safe working conditions.” Treyger has previously received endorsements from the United Federation of Teachers and Transportation Workers Union Local 100.
