New York Times?! Yeah baby! We opted out this year. Im not a fan of State Tests , however, High Stakes Testing is an entirely different animal than the tests given years ago. This tests play a huge part of teacher performance score, school rating, and a childs entrance into a desired middle school. To top it off the test is flawed by offering questions not pertaining to the curriculum the children are being taught (including multiple choice with more than one possible answer). I cant imagine how stressful these tests must be for parents that do not have the support we have at PS 146. We felt protected by the school staff and administration (and the relationships they have built with certain middle schools). Ruby and Maybelline go to PS 146 one of the schools mentioned in this article. Its important to remember that Common Core and High Stakes Testing are separate issues.
