New York, the City That Never Sleeps, is quiet and blanketed this - TopicsExpress

New York, the City That Never Sleeps, is quiet and blanketed this morning, covered up to keep a rattling, cold, blizzard wind at bay. Snow diminishes today; well see the sun again tomorrow. Its a good day to listen -- really listen -- to great music. We have lots on WQXR -- even more than usual if you like Mozart, because today is his birthday. The slow movement from his Piano Concerto No. 21 is downloadable today as Your Classical Podcast. Well bring you his 40th and 41st symphonies this afternoon and early evening, a new recording of his Requiem tonight at 8, and many of his other works through the day. Also this morning, Chopins windblown harp etude (oughta be played fortissimo to fit the weather, but fortunately it wont be), waltzes from Der Rosenkavalier, Haydns Surprise symphony, a grand improvisation on very old music by the group LArpeggiata, a sleigh ride with Frederick Delius, and your morning Bach, which today is also by Mozart. The best way to block out the blizzrd wind is by putting music in front of it. We suggest WQXR for all your blizzard wind-blocking needs, at 105.9 FM, WQXR.org, and on your phone or tablet with our app. Stay warm, and enjoy the music!
