New York was a success and an answer to prayer in the sense that it was confirmed that we are on the correct path and God is leading us, by the hand, through this journey. We were able to receive a second and third opinion, which gave us such confirmation. We have a confidence yet again that our precious Saviour is carrying Mary and leading Terry. There is a peace that all the doctors, at home and in New York, are working together to develop a plan of action for treatment and are in full agreement. Today we met with two different doctors. The surgeon met with us first. She explained reasons why she didnt feel it necessary to put Mary through a major surgery to remove her lung. It would be a difficult recovery and ultimately she does not want to make such a drastic removal of organs when chemo would still need to be given to treat the other areas where activity has been shown. Once we met with the specialist/oncologist clinical trials were discussed but proximity is an issue since the trials would be located in New York or possibly two other hospitals out of the state. These clinical trials have not been proven and would only be adding a single treatment on top of the chemo that begins on Monday. The trials are not starting immediately and the oncologist feels it is necessary to begin chemo and not wait on the trial that may or may not begin within the time frame necessary for Mary. Multiple times the doctors reminded us that Mary is young and in good overall health which leads to a much better prognosis. Due to the rarity of mesothelioma there is not yet a cure, that has been found, but treatments have been found to slow the spread and possibly shrink the growth within the location of origin. But...those doctors also dont know our Mary. She has continued to remind us that she is a fighter. And that she is! Our prayer has now turned to a plea that Marys body responds to the first 3 cycles of chemo and it will effectively slow down the growth and shrink the existing disease. We were excited to hear that the newer form of chemo will allow Mary to hopefully not feel as sick as chemo treatment did at one time. As the doctor put it we want you to live as normal a lifestyle as you like. I can tell you that there are surely 3 grand-babies that will be excited to climb up in that lap of hers and one soon-coming that she will adore some precious snuggle time with! On that note, after leaving the appointments, Mary and Terry took advantage of being in New York and went to dinner and tried to tour the Top of the Rock, embracing the short trip they had in New York. New York is one of Marys favorite places to spend time and Mary is so very obviously Terrys favorite person to spend an evening alongside! But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31
