New Zealand Institutions to offer Streamlined Visa Processing (SVP) for International Students!!!! This is to let you all know that the New Zealand government recently announced changes with regards to Work Rights of International students in New Zealand. In addition they have also announced an initiative of Immigration Industry partnerships to a limited number of education providers, on atrial basis, to facilitate faster visa processing for those institutions. The changes come into force from January 2014. Work Rights for Students: Diploma (Level 5 and 6), Bachelor and Graduate Diploma students – These students may work for up to 20 hours each week, and full- time during the end of year holiday. In addition effective from January 2014, they may work fulltime during all semester breaks. Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration and MBA students – There will be no change to current work rights, as the MBA is not a Masters degree by research. Hence students may work for up to 20 hours each week, and full time during the semester breaks. Doctoral and Masters by Research students will be able to work full time, while English language students will be able to work part-time. Immigration Industry Partnerships: The government has also announced on a trial basis a partnership model for education providers eligible to recruit international students to receive priority processing of visas, resulting in faster visa processing times. This trial has been limited to 25 of the hundreds of eligible providers, and will continue until the release of INZ’s new Immigration Online ICT platform in 2015. Those that are part of the initiative will be able to offer streamlined and prioritised visa processing for international students and in return, be accountable for the immigration outcomes of their international students.
