New Zealand ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights - TopicsExpress

New Zealand ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Consequently, the government has obligations to disabled people under the terms of this convention. The study involves interviewing disabled people aged 16-18, with any type of disability about their life experiences. Their stories will allow us to assess the government’s performance in meeting those obligations and highlight any areas they need to improve. The objectives of this research are to remove barriers and to promote opportunities for young disabled people. Names aren’t used so people reading the report won’t be able to identify the subjects. We will cover transport costs to and from the interview, and pay for sign language interpreters. Also, every participant will get a $20 voucher. For ethical reasons we will require both the consent of the young disabled people we wish to interview and their parents. The interviews will run from May- September 2013. If you are interested in being interviewed for this research, or have any questions please contact Nathan Bond via e-mailing [email protected] or phoning or txting +64 0220140173.
