New Zealanders are so weird. We have one of the poorest private savings rates in the world, and when a political party, in this case Labour talk about increasing government spending to fund free doctor visits for the elderly people start shouting the tired line of where are we gonna get the money to fund it? First of all double standards people, you want our government to reign in spending when as households and individuals we spend recklessly, live beyond our means, rely on credit? Practice what you preach. A policy like this funded by the government would actually take a burden off of individuals that help to facilitate a greater ability to save! And as a further newsflash, NZ has enough money, the conservative government has made up a lie that you have all bought into, that lie being social spending is unaffordable as we are in difficult economic times. Bollocks, if we didnt have enough money to fund government projects our learned government would have made more of an effort to crack down on tax evasion by the super wealthy which has been estimated to be to the tune of over $7billion dollars annually, thats more than what the government proposes to spend on the rebuild of Christchurch! Its all about priorities, if theres a will there is most definitely a way. Stop being fooled by neo-liberal nonsense people. And start thinking outside of the confines of your local community, pie shop and dairy corner. Im really worried about the state of intelligence in our country.
