New and Improved Georgia Avenue Playground Now Complete! Brand new park is vastly improved based on community input The City of Long Beach is excited to announce that the renovations at Georgia Avenue Playground are complete. City Councilman Anthony Eramo and Commissioner of Public Works Jim LaCarrubba worked hand-in-hand with members of the community and Playground Systems, the equipment supplier, to develop the design and select the equipment for this brand new playground. Earlier this year, residents of Long Beachs West End helped contribute their ideas and assist the City in selecting what they felt would be most appropriate for their families and their neighbors. The playgrounds new features include a brand new safety surface, replacing one that was damaged in Superstorm Sandy, along with new equipment and benches that are safe and durable, leading to a far longer lifespan for the playground. The spray park, which was constructed in 2009, was disassembled and all of its components were refurbished. Additionally, the spray park’s foundation and surface were replaced. Significant funding for this project is being supplied by FEMA grant monies to replace what was damaged in Sandy. The remainder of the costs are covered by a Community Development Block Grant.
