New baby on the farm!!! Normally I dont let my hens sit on eggs over winter, but this girl was pretty determined and wouldnt move. She made a nest way up high on the stack of large hay bales, a silly spot really as my husband has been gradually removing the hay to feed cattle, plus she was right near an edge where tiny chicks could fall down the side, never to be recovered. After several failed attempts at discouraging her, I eventually caved and let her sit on one egg....just one, which hatched today and I only discovered by accidentsas another hen was also using her nest to lay eggs in, I heard the ruckus and went to investigate. Have moved mother and child to a more secure location. Mum wasnt impressed by the disturbance but appears to have settled down.
