New blog post: We are excited to have a guest poster today! She is Kelly Smith, a friend of ours, and she is getting ready to take part in a really neat adventure called The World Race. We are proudly supporting her, and wanted to provide her a chance to introduce herself to our audience and share with y’all what she’ll be doing, in order to help her raise awareness and, hopefully, additional support. We’re also excited because she will be taking one of our M shirts along with her on this adventure (which will cover multiple countries and continents). So it’ll be fun to add her pictures to our #WhereintheWorldistheM pics! Anyways, please take a minute and read Kelly’s letter and we want to encourage y’all to then head over to her #blog to learn even more about what she’ll be doing, how you can follow her along on this adventure, and, if you feel so led, how you could support her! --- Kelly Smith Hey y’all! My name is Kelly Smith. I was graciously invited to write a guest blog post to share about the adventures I’ll be going on this coming year. In January I leave to spend 11 months overseas, in 11 different countries on a mission trip called The World Race. I’ll be traveling to one country each month and partnering with missionaries and ministries already there and serving and loving them however they need. But before I tell you all about my trip, let me back up and tell you a little about myself and how I ended up going on The World Race. I was born and raised in Lexington, SC. I grew up going to church with my family and came to have a personal relationship with Jesus when I was 14. Since then I’ve had a heart for missions, particularly overseas missions. I never really knew what that would look like and didn’t wholeheartedly pursue it until this year. The past few years I have been working full time as a nanny, taking care of some of the most precious children. I was quite content with my life here, easy and simple, not challenging me to trust Jesus and grow in my faith and follow him wherever he might lead. World Race 11in11 – Click for more info Early this year I felt like Jesus was calling me to seriously pursue missions full time. So I sent a few emails to different organizations asking for more information from each of them. Well, I didn’t hear back from anyone right away, which ended up being a huge blessing, there were a few things that happened in my life that needed my full attention here in Columbia in that season. Then back in June I had an email from Adventures in Missions, the parent organization of The World Race, talking about the routes launching in January 2015. I prayed about it and started seriously looking at the routes and asking God if this was where he wanted me. As I prayed I felt very strongly that it was, so I applied. Then in a crazy whirlwind of events, I was interviewed and fully accepted and officially going on January route 3! In those 6 days from my applying to knowing I was going Jesus threw open doors and answered prayers and began providing just what I needed to go on The World Race. World Race – Route 3 – Click for more info The route I’m going on is route 3, O Squad, launching in January 2015! We are going to the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Swaziland, Botswana, and South Africa. My squad, O Squad, is about 50 people and we will be traveling to each country together. Once in a country our squad will divide up into our teams of 6-8 people and go to the various ministry contacts to serve. My team, Team River Dwellers, is made up of 6 girls: Bec, Taylor, Lindsey, Dorien, Elle, and myself. I can’t wait to spend 11 months working with and being challenged by these ladies! World Race O Squard World Race Team River Dwellers In order for me to be fully funded for the race I need to raise close to $17,000. Currently I’ve raised $3582 towards the race. That leaves me with roughly $13,500 left to raise! If you are interested in donating to support sending me on the race, you can visit my blog and make a tax-deductible donation to Adventures in Missions. By donating to AIM you get to be a part of lives around the world. You will be sending me to be the hands and feet of Jesus, serving and loving the nations. The Mather Company is supporting me by simply sharing my story, which is so helpful getting the word out to others who may be interested in following my journey around the world. They’ve actually given me one of their “M” shirts that I’m going to take on the race with me and take photos wearing around the world! So be sure to follow their hashtag #whereintheworldistheM on facebook, twitter and instagram to see those! If you or your business are interested in partnering with me as I raise support and prepare for The World Race I would love to hear from you. You can send me an email at photosofgracephotography@gmail and I promise to get back in touch with you as quickly as possible. As I travel, I will be keeping my blog updated with photos and stories. I’ve already shared a lot of my story on my blog and will continue to update it leading up to my launch date January 7th. You can visit and subscribe to my blog here: kellysmith.theworldrace.org/. On my blog under “support me” is also where you can make donations to help fund me on the trip. Another way you can follow me and other world racers is through instagram by following the hashtags #11n11 #theworldrace #worldrace and my specific team #teamriverdwellers and me #kellyaroundtheworld Thanks so much for taking the time to read a little about me and The World Race! I pray that Jesus would use me to bring great glory to himself over this next year as I follow him calling me around the world. If you want, there are a few specific ways you can be praying for me. One is funding, I am dependent on the generosity of others donations to send me on this trip as I can’t afford to pay for it alone. The second is that I need to get vaccines for the trip, specifically yellow fever and malaria. Pray that an affordable solution to getting those would be provided. The last one is for safety and unity among my team and squad. Pray that Jesus would knit us into a close family in him and that we would be safe as we prepare to go overseas and as we travel the world. Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, and support! Kelly Smith --- Kelly, thank you for taking the time to share this with us. Though we are excited to see the M travel, we are even more excited to see how God uses you to further his kingdom through The World Race! We certainly will have you and your team in our prayers! To God be the glory!
