New commercial agreements between Canadian and Chinese firms November 8, 2014 Beijing, China Our Government is committed to accelerating trade and investment flows between Canada and China with a view to enhancing the prosperity of Canadian companies and generating jobs and economic growth at home. During his third official visit to China, Prime Minister Stephen Harper witnessed the signing of more than 20 agreements between the following Canadian and Chinese companies and organizations, which are representative of the significant growth that is taking place in the bilateral commercial relationship: Airborne China Limited Airborne China Limited, a subsidiary of Alberta-based Airborne International Holdings Corp, and Heilongjiang InterChina Water Ltd. signed an investment agreement worth over $25 million towards long-term cooperation on reducing air pollution in China. Under the deal, Airborne China Limited will provide sulfur dioxide, sulfur trioxide, nitrogen oxides, particulate matter and mercury reduction throughout China. Air Canada Air Canada signed a memorandum of understanding to form a joint venture with Air China that should, over several years and based on the size and growth of the Canada-China market, generate in excess of 500 million CAD in incremental annual revenue to the joint venture partners at full maturity when network growth is realized and incremental frequencies and aircraft are added by both carriers. Anemoi Ontario-based Anemoi signed a contract with CSR Qingdao Sifang Company Ltd. (CSR Sifang) to design and supply a high-speed train crash testing facility. Bombardier Quebec-based Bombardier signed a contract worth over $1 billion with China Express Airlines for the purchase of 16 aircraft with an option for eight more. Candu Energy Inc. Candu Energy Inc. of Ontario signed a framework agreement to create a joint company with China National Nuclear Corporation to develop the Advanced Fuel CANDU reactor and deliver CANDU New Build projects in China and international markets. Cansolv Technologies Inc. (Shell Cansolv) Quebec-based Shell Cansolv Beijing will provide its licensed technology, basic engineering design, technical services and proprietary solvent to Yunnan Tin Company LTD. to help remove nearly 46,000 tons of sulfur dioxide per year from tin smelter tail gas streams and meet the strict emission standards; the pure sulfur dioxide will be used to generate over 70,000 tons of high purity sulfur acid. DHX Media Nova Scotia-based DHX Media and China Network Television (CNTV) signed a cooperation agreement to create a new, childrens focused, video-on-demand content distribution platform that combines CNTVs strength in the Chinese market with DHXs library of childrens entertainment content. DHX and CNTV plan to continually update content on the new platform as additional shows from DHX’s library are dubbed into Mandarin and new series are produced at DHX’s animation studios in Vancouver, Halifax and Toronto. Eldorado Gold Corporation British Columbia-based Eldorado Gold Corporation will sponsor a cooperative training program for public and private sector affiliates of China’s Ministry of Environmental Protection to attend training and educational programs. FTG Aerospace Ontario-based Firan Technology Group Corporation and Shanghai Avionics Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding worth up to $60 million concerning the design, development, manufacturing and product support of the display system control panels for the Chinese C919 aircraft. Green Power Labs Nova Scotia-based Green Power Labs has executed a major business development and cooperation agreement with China’s State Nuclear Electric Power Planning Design & Research Institute. The scope of cooperation will include solar project development in China and internationally and the development of new technology and applications in core areas of smart building, smart city and smart grid design. KELK Ontario-based KELK, a division of Vishay Precision Group Canada ULC, signed two agreements today. The first was for a long-term strategic cooperation agreement with Wuhan Iron and Steel Group (WISCO) Engineering & Technology Group Instrumentation & Control Company for KELK to supply its state-of-the-art electronic measurement equipment for new builds or revamping of steel rolling projects. The second agreement was with the Design Research Institute Company Limited at the University of Science & Technology Beijing for a long-term strategic cooperation agreement to use KELK’s equipment new builds or revamping of steel rolling projects. Kryton International Inc. British-Columbia based Kryton International Inc. signed an agreement with Beijing Maple Real Estate Company, Ltd. to use Kryton’s waterproof concrete technology and products in their VancouverForest project in Beijing. This deal is potentially worth more than $5 million over seven years. LeMine Investment Group Ontario-based LeMine Investment Group signed a seven year, $1 billion, canola oil export agreement, along with a canola crude-oil trade promotion agreement with Guizhou Fengguan Group. MHKW Architects Ontario-based MHKW Architects signed two contracts valued at approximately $59 million for their design services for the 1) headquarters building for the Fujian International Business Association and for 2) Beijing Guo-Fu-Yi-Jia Health Care and Resort Developments Ltd.’s new Yangjiang Guo-Fu-Yi-Jia Health Care & Resort Centre in Guangdong. Pacific Potash Corporation British Columbia-based Pacific Potash Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding of strategic investment with the Northern International Group of Tianjin for Northern International to invest $15 million in Pacific Potash to jointly develop world-class potash projects in Canada and internationally. Plasco China Plasco China, a subsidiary of Plasco Energy Group, signed a framework Agreement with Shougang Group to bring Plasco’s waste-to-energy facilities to Beijing. Ontario-based Plasco Energy leverages strategic partnerships around the world to enable the global deployment of its world-leading waste conversion technology. Suncor Energy Inc. Through its Petro-Canada Lubricants business, Alberta-based Suncor recently opened an office in Guangzhou, its second in China. The Canadian Foundation for Chinese Heritage Preservation and the Chinese Culture Promotion Society of Canada In the spirit of enhancing cultural exchanges between Canada and China, and strengthening mutual understanding and communications between the peoples of Canada and China, in cooperation with the China International Culture Association and Beijing Haidian District Peoples Government, the Chinese Culture Promotion Society of Canada and The Canadian Foundation for Chinese Heritage Preservation announced that the parties will jointly host “2015 Glory of Yuanmingyuan – a cultural exhibition of Yuanmingyuan” in Canada. With photos, images, models, replicas of antiques and multimedia presentations, the Exhibition will portray the splendor, ruin and rebirth of this ancient Chinese imperial garden. University of Alberta The University of Alberta signed an agriculture-related memorandum of understanding with NorthwestUniversity in Xi’an as well as an energy education-related memorandum of understanding with Xi’an Jiaotong University. Vancouver Economic Commission, Istuary Innovation Labs The British-Columbia-based Vancouver Economic Commission signed a contract with the Guangzhou International Innovation City, ZhejiangUniversityNationalSciencePark to expand Istuary Innovation Labs’ existing technology incubator and accelerator.
