New database allows infrastructure tracking . . . The City of Austin – in an effort to become a more transparent, accessible government – has launched an online tool designed to allow the public to track the progress of major infrastructure and facilities projects. CIVIC, or the Capital Improvements Visualization, Information and Communication, is an online portal featuring an interactive map where the public can get information about a variety of projects affecting such things as roads, water systems or parks. Phase 1 of the online tool features: A Map Viewer displaying the location of projects funded by the 2010 and 2012 bond programs; Capital project detail pages including project description, status, funding sources and project manager; Reports about the Capital Improvement Program that detail program funding and spending; and Frequently asked questions about the Capital Improvement Program. Initially, only projects funded by the 2012 and 2010 bond programs are available in the Map Viewer. In upcoming months, the site’s functionality will be expanded. CIVIC can be accessed at austintexas.gov/CIVIC. . . . InFactDaily
