New message from Khiet Phong - Làng Mai: Dear Beloved Community, I am aware that last night I sent a letter informing the community of Thay’s current health state. With my heart full of emotion I am sorry to now have to inform the community that the situation has suddenly changed for the worse. Early this morning Thay had a serious brain haemorrhage and is now in a coma. Brother Phap Ao was in the room with Thay and at around 4am Thay was speaking but TP Ao could not understand what Thay was saying. TP Ao called us in right away. Thay could still recognise Su Co Dinh Nghiem, TP Huu, TP Dai, TP Ao but Thay was beginning to lose consciousness. We called Thay several times and he came in and out of consciousness around 5 times. The doctors scanned Thay’s brain right away but could not interpret the image until Thay’s doctor arrived around an hour ago and confirmed that there is a hemorrhage in the left hemisphere which extends from the surface deep into Thay’s brain. In Thay’s current state of health they cannot operate. The prognosis is that Thay may have only a few days left, or perhaps only hours. For our brothers and sisters in Europe, please arrange your schedule so you can come to Plum Village as soon as possible to have the chance to visit Thay. We do not know if it will be possible to visit Thay or not because the room is small and the doctors and nurses are still doing their best to care for Thay’s comfort. We will do our best to work with them to arrange for groups to come and spend a few minutes to chant for Thay but we have to respect the work that the doctors and nurses are still trying to do. There are also many other patients in the hospital and we will have to take care not to disturb the running of the ward. Please can the elder brothers and sisters help us to arrange so that brothers and sisters can come in groups of around 10 at a time to chant for Thay and to be present for Thay. We ask our international monastic Sangha to right away come back to the practice and organise for the community to have ceremonies of sending energy for Thay (Lễ Cầu An).
