New modules to strengthen PopEd campaign By: Elsa S. Subong ILOILO CITY, Dec. 24(PIA)—Books on Population Education have been given a new lease with the publication of PopEd Lesson Exemplars by the Commission on Population here. Joseph Carillo of the Department of Health, serving as panellist during the launching forum, said that the familiar and comfortable language of the booklets make them understandable for young people and user-friendly for teachers. He added that the availability of the health information in these books, should create a demand for services for young people, wherein the DOH should be readily responsive. Dr. Rovel Salcedo of the Department of Education said that the Lesson Exemplars are much better than those previously published so the DepEd should continue collaborating with the Popcom for their use all over the region. Former DepEd-6 Director Dr. Corazon Brown, who played a significant role in the development of the Exemplars, urged the schools to make full use of the books. “I appeal to you, teachers, to do your share by learning and training on the use of the lessons,” Brown said. The DEpEd has already endorsed the integration of the PopEd Lesson Exemplars in the subjects and are already part of the monitoring and technical assistance of the department. The last PopEd modules were prepared in 1987 yet, making the current Lesson Exemplars more relevant, said Popcom-6 Information Officer Ma. Xenia Serio, who was at the helm of the project.
