{New post} Though it may seem counterintuitive, the exact opposite thing to do when you feel like you cant control your urge to binge is to white-knuckle your way through resisting the food to the point of complete deprivation. Why? Because the fastest way to assure that you will not ever have prayer of resisting a food is to put it on the off limits list. When we do that, we put the food up on a pedestal. We revere it and it becomes this big, scary thing to be avoided at all costs. But the reality is that, being able to resist a food because its out of sight, out of mind is not control. Its a Band-Aid. The ultimate in control is being able to be around ANY food ANY time and have practiced your relationship with food to the point that you can take a single bite of anything and move on. Or, maybe you dont even need it. And *exposure* to the very foods youre most scared of is the way you practice that healthy interaction.
