New professional photographers - here is a post everyone who does work for hire should read and think hard. This person posted about shoot and burn. Outside thoughts can make good sense. Im a hobbyist, not a pro but no way would I do this. The client pays you for your services and your expertise (key word there). You provide a product theyre happy and pleased with. We both know that a lot of shots are taken and the best of the bunch is provided to the client. And usually those have been edited. For you to release all the images to the client is akin to someone buying a painting but insisting the artist includes all their works. Ridiculous, right? There are people in my line of work (real estate) who will often times discount their services in order to get a listing. The seller usually ends up firing that agent and hiring someone like me who will get the job done quickly and as painlessly as possible, and theyre happy to pay me because Im good at what I do. These shoot and burn photographers as you call them are no different than those agents who discount their services to turn a quick buck. They may not have the level of integrity about their work that you do, and the fact that theyre giving away their images speaks volumes, doesnt it?
