New rescue!!!! This Green Iguana was caught in Miami and the person thought they had a home for it but that fell through. He will be staying with us for now and if other arrangements arent found after hes healthy, then he will be a permanent family member here. Did you know Green Iguana arent native to Miami, but are actually pets that have been released because people dont want them anymore and are now breeding. There are similar problems with ball pythons and rock pythons being released into the wild in south Florida, and now some of our native species are facing extinction because if the new predators. The sad thing is these snakes are now being hunted and killed because of the overpopulation when its humans who started this problem. People often get Iguanas and ball pythons when the animals are still young, small and cute. They get big rather quickly and require A LOT of room, and their owners end up just setting them free. Our friend brought a bearded dragon to us not that long ago that he found while mowing the lawn! He has an awesome home now and is doing great!
