New research from the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology suggest fathers’ diet, weight and health at conception potentially contributes to obesity, diabetes and chronic disease in offspring eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2014-01/foas-fdb011614.php The research, done on rats, found males who ate a high fat diet, had diabetes and were obese produced babies with an altered gene expression in pancreas and fat metabolic tissues, which potentially increases the risk of future obesity and premature ageing, a press release from the FASEB Journal says. This is an interesting study, given most of the focus to date has been on maternal diet. I guess it just pays for both parents-to-be to try to be at optimum health preconception.
