New research published in the journal NeuroImage reveals links between brain activity right before seeing an object and how well we remember it later. Scientists at UT Dallas to record the brain activity of people during a memory test. For some participants, the researchers gave them a small amount of information about a pair of pictures before they were shown: X if the objects were represented as words and O if it were pictures. Not only did this information help subjects remember the image pairs better on a later test, the researchers also found associations between greater activity in the hippocampus immediately before viewing the image and better recall. The researchers say that these results could help lead to better learning and study strategies for students.
