New scientific, peer-reviewed, quantitative research from Princeton and Northwestern universities concludes decisively that the US is no longer a democracy but an oligarchy. The data indicate that for several decades, America has been sliding steadily into oligarchy, a system in which power is wielded by a small number of powerful individuals known as oligarchs, and that the process is probably accelerating. The central point that emerges from the research is that “In the US, the majority does not rule. Large corporations, the ultra-wealthy, and monied special interests groups make essentially all the decisions. The preferences of the average American appear to have only a minuscule, near-zero, statistically non-significant impact upon public policy. Even when an overwhelmingly large majority of US citizens disagrees with economic elites or with monied organized interests, they generally lose. The research will be taught at universities beginning in September 2015.
