New tweet sent: SocialPublishersFoun @Fund_Action_Rsh 1m1 minute ago Heres a worthy School Library project to support: https://socialpublishersfoundation.org/projects/book-club/ …. Do good work: document impact. A winning combination. Background: This may seem a simple combination, really. Yet, this link between doing good work and sharing the impact is an important one for us all to grapple with in 2015. We all know dedicated school librarians, teachers and counselors impact students lives. Lets begin to show how in our own ways, without big money research. An award-winning Georgia teacher wrote in the Washington Post last year about “Seven Things Teachers are Sick of Hearing from School Reformers.” Among the seven were “Don’t tell us that you know more about good instruction than we do,” and “Don’t tell us ‘the research says. . .’ unless you’re willing to talk about what it really says.” The author made a strong case for the frustration of educators. This same frustration is felt by practitioners in other service sectors as well, and it is this frustration that the Social Publishers Foundation is addressing. Yes, practitioners know their practice well from their experience working in their fields. However, practice wisdom is most often not documented, so it is often not shared with other practitioners. When practitioners use action research as a tool for strengthening practice, they also produce new knowledge that demonstrates why and/or how their practice works. The Foundation brings these ideas to life by supporting practitioner-researchers in raising funds and sharing their work across the globe. Please help spread the word; and follow us on Twitter. Our December 27 post on Mica Nereus project reached 3,086 people. New goal: reach 5,000 within 12 hours of a post. Lets help Caroline Askew reach her goal of $2,200 for a project to examine increasing high school student reading of fiction. Caroline works in a small rural school in Windsor, Missouri. Donate $5 or $10 now.
