Read it online. Welcome to the NSPCC marathon team! We’ll be with you every step of the way By running the Virgin Money London Marathon with the NSPCC, you’re doing something amazing for children and young people all across the UK. The money you raise will help fund the NSPCC’s work, including the ChildLine Schools Service, which gives primary school children the awareness they need to recognise abuse and seek help sooner. By securing a Gold Bond place you have pledged to raise a minimum of £2,000 (excluding Gift Aid) towards our overall total – a fantastic commitment. To help you reach your target, we’ll be in touch over the coming weeks with advice and tips, but to give you a head start, why not check out our fundraising ideas in the meantime? Remember, every £12 you raise could help our ChildLine Schools Service volunteers reach one more primary school child. Your personal training support! Whether this is your first organised run or you’re a seasoned pro, we have training tips to help you. We want to offer our runners the best possible support, so have teamed up with two-time Olympic marathon runner and Commonwealth Games medallist, Liz Yelling. Liz and her team of experts at Yelling Performance are here to get you off to a flying start, so if you need support or advice on your training and nutrition, or you are worried about an injury, please get in touch. Liz and her husband Martin, an expert in running and the other half of Yelling Performance, will be holding a training day in January to help you with your running technique, nutrition and injury prevention. Places for this are limited, so keep an eye out for registration details in future emails. You’ll also be able to chat to Liz and Martin about any training and marathon concerns in one of our live Facebook chats. Make a note of any questions and we’ll be in touch shortly to let you know when these will be taking place. In addition to this, Liz is offering one lucky runner a one-to-one, 20 minute training call. You’ll need to bank £1,000 by 1 March 2014 to be eligible – for further information, visit our website Now’s the perfect time to set up your online giving page and share it with your friends The money you raise can help ChildLine ensure that its trained School Service volunteers can visit every primary school in every community in the UK, helping children understand abuse, giving them the confidence to talk about it, the knowledge to prevent it, and the courage to find help if they ever need it. Your support will help us to empower an entire generation and protect many thousands of children from the devastating effects of abuse. Some important dates for your diary Before you’re able to cross the start line on 13 April, there are two important things that you’ll need to do: • Complete an online registration form from the race organisers - it only takes a couple of minutes and without this, the organisers will not allow you to start the race. Look out for an email from the Virgin Money London Marathon team in the next few months and try to get it out of the way as soon as you can – it won’t take long! • Attend the Virgin Money London Marathon expo to collect your race number. The expo takes place 9 - 12 April 2014 at the ExCeL centre, London. Keep in touch We know that training for a marathon can be a challenge, but we’re here to support you. We want to hear about how your training is going and keep you updated on how the money you raise will help vulnerable children and young people, so make sure you follow us on Twitter and find us on Facebook. Thank you for choosing to run the Virgin Money London Marathon for the NSPCC - you’re doing something amazing for children.
