Newcastle Kids Beat Manchester United Even Without Adam - TopicsExpress

Newcastle Kids Beat Manchester United Even Without Adam Armstrong Saturday saw an absolutely dire 90 minutes in the capital but back on Tyneside it was a different story, the Newcastle youngsters beating Manchester United despite star striker Adam Armstrong’s promotion to the senior squad. Earlier in the year the Newcastle Under 18s beat Manchester United away from home 2-1 and they rounded off an impressive double yesterday as Greg Olley scored the goal that gave United the win. Having bowed out of the FA Youth Cup in midweek to Chelsea, Newcastle faced a different challenge on Saturday as the windy conditions at Little Benton made good football a tricky proposition. United had been the better team throughout the match but it took until the 56th minute for the decisive moment to come, Ben Drennan feeding Greg Olley from the right hand side and he struck the ball beyond the visiting keeper to win the game. Predictably, Manchester United then woke up and as the minutes ticked by they did exert a little pressure but United keeper Freddie Woodman and his defence were equal to it. Newcastle: Woodman, Booth, Gibson (Laidler 76), Olley, Cameron, Drennan, Gilliead, Kemen, Smith, Heardman, Quinn
