Newly-ranked officers were given key posts in a major shake-up of the regular police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations. In the changes made on Thursday,regional commanders will take charge of areas formally known as provinces before the 2010 Constitution was implemented. Mr Benson Kibui retained his position as Nairobi police boss while his deputy Moses Ombati will take charge of North Eastern. Mr George Kinoti becomes the police spokesman, having been moved from Central Bank where he was an assistant director in charge of security. The war against terrorism will be headed by Mr Munga Nyale, who was moved from the Flying Squad, now commanded by Mr Mohamed Said. Others regional commanders are Gideon Amalla (Rift Valley), Robert Kitur (Coast), Willy Lugusa (Nyanza),Gerald Mbaabu (Western), David Baya (Eastern) and Larry Kyeng (Central). ADVERTISEMENT New directors were also named and will sit at Vigilance House — the Kenya Police Service Headquarters. They are Stephen Chelimo (Inspections), Marcus Ocholla(Personnel), Philip Ndolo (Operations) and Aggrey Adoli (Community Policing). Mr Mohamed Amin was named head of operations at the DCI headquarters, replacing Mr Francis Njiru who was deployed to Nyeri County. In the Investigations unit there will be under Joseph Ngisa. Other investigations chiefs are Judy Ndenda (Kenya Airports Police Unit) Abubakar Maalim (Criminal Intelligence Unit), Patrick Ndunda (Criminal Registry), Julius Sunkuli (Logistics), Mary Kaol (Railways Police Unit), Zephania, Jacinta Kinyua (Personnel). The shake-up was imminent after new ranking created an imbalance in key offices and positions in the service.
