#News: Ambassador Nega Tsegaye presents credentials to the President of the Republic of #Portugal The Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Republic of Portugal, Ambassador Nega Tsegaye, presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Portugal, Mr. Aníbal Cavaco Silva, on Thursday last week (September 25). Ambassador Nega briefed the President on Ethiopia’s peaceful and stable environment and on its role in working for peace and stability in Africa and in the Horn of Africa in particular. The Ambassador, noting that Ethiopia had registered double digit economic growth for the last decade, underlined the various trade and investment opportunities available in the country. President Silva, acknowledging the five century-long historic relations between the two countries, said Portugal appreciated the efforts the Ethiopia government was making to resolve conflicts in the region and elsewhere. He welcomed the opportunity to strengthen economic relations further. Ambassador Nega assured the President that he will work to strengthen the existing cordial relationship between the two countries. During his stay in Portugal, Ambassador Nega, who is resident in Paris, held discussions with the Secretary–General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ana Martinho, and the Director of the Sub–Saharan Africa Department, Mr. Joao Queros. They expressed readiness for closer cooperation in political, trade and economic spheres and noted the potential for development of bilateral cooperation. They also welcomed the commemoration of five centuries of contact between the two countries which will be held in Addis Ababa and said it would strengthen bilateral relations. Ambassador Nega also met and held discussions with the Director of AICEP, Portugal’s Global Trade and Investment Agency, Mrs. Rita Araujo, and explained the comparative advantage of Ethiopia for trade and investment.
