News: Castro In A Rush To Bring Home Players Passports In Time For Gilas Departure For Incheon The arrival of Gilas Pilipinas in this city for the Asian Games is facing delay, no thanks to typhoon Mario. Gilas Pilipinas team manager Aboy Castro is scheduled to return to Manila on Friday night to bring home the passports of the players. Castro came to this city early to attend the team managers’ meeting where all the players passports were checked by organizers. The flight of Castro bound for Manila, however, has been delayed for several hours due to heavy rains and flooding brought about by typhoon Mario. Incidentally, the plane to be taken by Castro is the same that was to bring in Gilas Pilipinas assistant coaches Tab Baldwin, Jong Uichico, and Josh Reyes from Manila. Castro hopes he will be able to bring home the passports of the players in time for Gilas scheduled departure on Saturday in a flight which is also facing the possibility of being postponed due to the heavy rains. “The weather, we can’t contain. But I already have some back-ups. We will do everything to make it back to Manila because I have the players’ passports with me,” said Castro. Fortunately, Gilas Pilipinas has time on its side as the team wont be playing until Tuesday. Baldwin, Uichico, and Reyes are coming in early from Manila in order to scout the matches of Group B that has Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, Palestine, and India. The top team in Group B will join the Philippines and Iran in Group E during the second phase of the eliminations.
