News Feed: A 21-year-old man from Walvis Bay in the Erongo Region has a bullet stuck in the leg after he accidentally shot himself with a pistol he stole from his father. He allegedly stole his father’s gun from a safe in the house and went out with it in his pants pocket. The incident took place at Independence Beach in Walvis Bay, between 01h00 and 02h00 on 01 January 2015. Crime Investigations Coordinator for the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) at Walvis Bay, Deputy Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa said the victim was transferred to Windhoek last week Friday for the bullet to be extracted. “He was apparently running with his friends with the gun in the pocket, he then decided to remove it but it accidentally went off. The bullet hit him in the area between the foot and knee,” said Kashuupulwa. Kashuupulwa indicated that the name of the young man could not be revealed, as he is not yet charged. His father is still to give his statement on how the son got hold of the key to the gun safe. She noted that there is a possibility that the father will be charged with negligence in the handling of a firearm.
