News: Im More Than Just A Second Choice, Says New Alaska Import DJ Covington He may be the Plan B, but newly signed Alaska import DJ Covington stressed there’s nothing second-rate about what he can bring to the Aces’ table in the upcoming PBA Commissioner’s Cup. The Aces settled for the American slotman after negotiations with former reinforcement Rob Dozier fell through. But Covington feels he’s definitely worth equal the value of Dozier, the former Best Import who led the Aces to the 2013 Commissioner’s Cup. “I’m more than just a second choice,” said the 6-foot-9 big man, who was in attendance in Game Six of the Philippine Cup Finals on Sunday. “I feel like I’m a really good player and I do have something to prove and that comes along with playing and hard work.” “It’s just another day at the office; I play basketball and I love it.” The 23-year-old brings the same defensively mentality as Dozier, having been a two-time Big South Defensive Player of the Year, but doesn’t want to compare himself to his predecessor. “I understand he came here and he played well. But there are no hard feelings about that (being second choice),” he said. “I’m just here to do a job, play well, and get along with teammates, and win games. It’s what it comes down to.” “I’m excited,” the Virginia Military Institute product added. “It’s a good opportunity to come in to a good team and come right away and help out.” First, Covington hopes the Aces rule the current conference after forcing Game Seven with an 87-76 win. “I know they’re a good position to win this series, try to get back and win another one.” Original Link: spin.ph/basketball/pba/news/im-more-than-just-a-second-choice-says-new-alaska-import-dj-covington-after-aces-talks-with-rob-dozier-fell-through
