News Line! Ghana’s total public debt, at the end of June 2013, stood at GH¢39.1 billion, equivalent to 53.5% of Gross Domestic Product, up from GH¢35.1 billion, representing 49.4% at the end of 2012. This, however, does not include the $3billion Chinese loan government is still after nor does it include the US$1 billion Eurobond money. This means that Ghana loses 53.5% of its GDP, which currently stands at GH¢73.1 billion, to the ever-growing public debt. Ghana, with an estimated population of 27 million people, when divided by the public debt, every Ghanaian would owe GH¢1,448.15 to the country’s creditors, both internally and externally, as of June 2013.
