****News Paper Review _____- TRIBUNE THE Federal Government has announced the signing of ceasefire deal with the Islamic sect, Boko Haram. Minister of Special Duties, Alhaji Tanimu Turaki, announced the ceasefire agreement on Radio France International Hausa services monitored in Kano, on Monday afternoon. This is coming as the government of the United Kingdom (UK) planned to enact a law prohibiting association with Boko Haram and UK-based Minbar Ansar Deen. The British Home Secretary, Theresa May, asked that the two radical Islamist organisations to be banned under terrorism laws. According to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), “if the two groups are banned, it will be illegal to support or become a member of either group, to arrange meetings or wear clothing in support of them.” Offenders, as stated, could face fines of up to £5,000 (N1,250,000) or up to 10 years in prison. ------------------------------------------------------------- ___ We’ll not support Jonathan in 2015 –Northern elders - PUNCH The Northern Elders’ Forum on Monday said that the North would not support President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 presidential election. The spokesman for the group, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, stated this in an interview with one of our correspondents, while reacting to a statement by the Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, Babangida Aliyu. Aliyu, had in Minna on Sunday, said the North would negotiate with candidates contesting the 2015 presidential election. He denied saying only a northerner should emerge as President in 2015. Abdullahi said, “My part of the North will not support him (Jonathan). The South owe us a moral debt and they should pay. “They seem to be forgetting the moral debt they owe us. There is nothing personal against the person of President Goodluck Jonathan. There is something wrong with the system that threw him up against equity and justice.” The NEF spokesman said that people should have the courage to acknowledge equity and justice. ---------------------------------------------------------------- ____ 195 police officers to face panel - THE NATION No fewer than 195 senior police officers are facing a disciplinary panel for various acts of misconduct, it was announced yesterday. Among the officers are four Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs); 17 Commissioners of Police (CPs); two Deputy Commissioners of Police; six Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs); and 166 others of the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and above. The affected officers are to face the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC) chaired by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of ‘A’ Department, Suleiman Fakai. Fakai, who briefed reporters at the Force Headquarters shortly before the committee’s sitting yesterday, said all the affected officers had been queried by the various superior authorities at various times within the past three months. According to him, any of the officers found culpable would be handed disciplinary actions ranging from dismissal, prosecution, demotion, reprimand and warning to advice, depending on the degree of their offences. Any of the officers found without blemish will be exonerated. Fakai did not release the names of the affected officers, neither did he specify their offences. ------------------------------------------------------------------ ____ Dad begs for forgiveness for defiling his two daughters - VANGUARD Policemen attached to Ikotun division in Lagos have arrested a man alleged to have been having carnal knowledge of his two daughters between the ages of 10 and 13, in the past two years. His daughters reportedly claimed to have been going through what they described as horrible experience since their mother left them for another man. Unable to resist their father, they endured until the elder girl confided in her friend’s mother, who then contacted some child rights groups. The organisations were said to have effected the man’s arrest On his part, the 35-year-old suspect , a commercial bus driver identified as Adewale Adeleke, admitted to the police that he committed the sacrilegious act. He claimed, however, that he did not know what usually comes over him at that point. Hear him: “I beg to be forgiven. This is the handiwork of the devil because I do not know what usually comes over me.
