On September 14, 2014, Jasmine Baetzel, server at Nauti-Nancy’s Restaurant in Clearwater received a $200.00 tip from a restaurant patron. At the end of the shift, Jasmine was processing payments and tips, when owner Nancy O’Neil prevented her from processing the $200.00 tip and told her to submit zero instead. Jasmine complied. Following this incident, a call was made to Nancy regarding payment by Jasmine‘s mother, Jolie Baetzel. Nancy reasoned that since she did not want to pay the credit card fee and because the tip would be used by Jasmine for her personal expenses, she would not allow the transaction to be completed. Jasmine called Nancy later in the day to discuss her schedule at which time she was fired by Nancy. Nancy’s demeanor and behavior is not only abusive, but illegal. On a previous occasion a catered event for radio station WTAN, and hosted by Lola Wagonvoord employed Jasmine and other servers to work an 8 hour shift. At the end of the event the servers were told by management that there was no tip from WTAN. It is believed that management did not pay a gratuity to workers unbeknownst to Ms. Wagonvoord. At the end of the day each worker earned under $17.00. Nauti-Nancy’s is a neighborhood seafood shack with live music and a laid back atmosphere. Many prominent Clearwater residents, as well as tourists and locals patronize and support this restaurant. It is only fair that the community become informed that the cold beer and hot clams they enjoy are served by those who are bullied and brow beaten by an owner who is nothing less than a monster. Jasmine is too intimidated by Nancy to stand up for herself - exactly why this owner felt perfectly comfortable stepping over the line ethically and legally.
