News Release: Modernism Week Appoints New Members to Board of Directors Design Professional and Landscape Architect Lend Their Talent and Passion to Non-Profit Palm Springs, CA (May 7, 2014) – Modernism Week officials have named two new members to their Board of Directors. Maureen Erbe and William Kopelk assume positions on the now eight-person leadership team immediately. Led by J. Chris Mobley, Chairman of Modernism Week, the board also includes Vice Chairman – Larry Abel, Treasurer – Mark Davis, Secretary – Gary Johns, and Members at Large – Laurie Weitz and Regina Basterrechea. Modernism Week, which will celebrate its tenth annual festival February 12-22, 2015, ended this year’s event on a high note with more than 45,000 attendees from a dozen countries contributing an estimated $17 million to the local economy. The appointment of two new board members will assist with the organization’s plan to expand programs throughout the calendar year. “Maureen brings a wonderful design aesthetic and attention to detail to our team, and William is knowledgeable and committed to local preservation efforts,” stated Mobley. “They are both extremely talented and a joy to work with. We look forward to their contributions.” Maureen Erbe is principal and creative director of Erbe Design, a marketing communications and branding firm she founded more than 25 years ago in historic South Pasadena, CA. She is also a partner in Revisioned Homes, a residential architectural restoration company. “I enjoy dividing my time between Los Angeles and Palm Springs, and feel so grateful to be able to merge my passions for architecture and design.” stated Erbe. “While renovating my two Alexander homes in Palm Springs I became a modernism enthusiast, and look forward to contributing to the growth of Modernism Week.” Erbe and her Alexanders appeared in the film, Mid-Century Moderns: The Homes That Define Palm Springs. William Kopelk is a landscape architect who has lived in Palm Springs since securing his first desert landscape project at the newly restored Kaufmann House in 1998. A firm believer in preservation efforts, he served as President of the Palm Springs Preservation Foundation for eight years and was a founding member of the Modernism Week Committee in 2005. “Having been involved with Modernism Week from the very beginning, I am enthusiastic about the upcoming 10-year anniversary and applaud its evolution,” exclaimed Kopelk. We are now viewed as having created a viable example of how preservation, education, and tourism can be combined for the good of the community. Very exciting, indeed!
