News Release: Named suspect sought for hotel robbery GSPD Detectives are asking for the public’s help in providing information on the whereabouts of a man who is suspected of committing an armed robbery at the Courtyard Marriott in Gulf Shores. On Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at approximately 1:00 a.m., Gulf Shores Police responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Courtyard Marriott, which is located in the 3700 block of Gulf Shores Parkway. According to witness statements and surveillance footage the suspect approached the hotel clerk in the lobby and pulled out a black handgun. The suspect then told the clerk that he wanted all of the money. The clerk complied and handed over an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect then fled the area on foot. After a canvass of the area officers were unable to locate the suspect. During a thorough investigation, Gulf Shores Detectives have identified the robbery suspect as Joshua Daniel Thomas, a 20-year-old resident of Foley, AL. Thomas is described as a 20-year-old male white. He stands at 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 210 lbs. Detectives have obtained warrants on Thomas for Robbery in the first degree (Title 13A-8- 41), a Class A felony and Theft of Property in the second degree (Title 13A-8-4), a class C felony. Please do not approach Thomas as he is considered to be armed and dangerous. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective Conway at 251-968-1157.
