***News Release*** On May 17, 2014, at around 11:06 PM, Utica Police responded to the area of Wager & Schuyler Streets, in regards to a large fight and the possible use of a firearm. While en route to the scene officers received additional information that a person named Nadarevic (white male, tattoos on his arms & wearing an orange shirt) had fired gunshots and fled the scene. When officers arrived at the scene (1111 Schuyler Street) they learned that the man with the orange tee shirt (Sanel Nadarevic) and another person were having a rap battle when Nadarevic became upset and fired his gun off three times. Utica Police officers Sean Bubnis and Daniel Gymburch conducted a traffic stop of a motor vehicle that Sanel Nadarevic was a passenger in on the 600 block of Plant Street and Nadarevic fled from the car. Officer Gymburch gave chase and eventually tackled Nadarevic to the ground. As Officer Gymburch was taking Nadarevic to the ground he heard a heavy object fall to the ground. About a foot away from where Sanel Nadarevic was taken into custody police officers recovered a .22 caliber handgun. While on Plant Street Sanels brother- Salmin Nadarevic threaten to shoot the child of another person at the scene. Salmin picked up a rock and threw it at this person striking him in the head. When Salmin attempted to strike this same male with a bottle of Corona he was taken into police custody through the deployment of a TASER. The victim who was struck with a rock fled the scene and all efforts to locate him were negative. While all these events transpired on Plant Street the family of Salmin Nadarevic made threats and taunts at law enforcement officers at the scene. Salmin Nadarevic (age 20, of 631 Plant Street, Utica) was charged with: *Criminal possession of a weapon 4th degree, *Menacing in the 2nd degree, and *Resisting arrest. Sanel Nadarevic (age 20, of 637 Plant Street, Utica) was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the 4th degree. It should be noted that the New York Police assisted us with the call on Plant Street. Additional charges against both Nadarevic twins are likely in the near future. Chief Mark Williams would like to publicly acknowledge the great police work and professionalism of his police officers who handled this incident. **Note** All crimes in this release are alleged, and all person named are innocent until proven guilty.
