News Release Wilmington Police Department Crime Alert for Owners of Vacant Properties, Realtors and Apartment Managers Thursday, September 12, 2013 - 3:30 pm WILMINGTON, NC - Wilmington Police want to alert owners of vacant properties, Realtors and apartment managers about a re-occurring rash of copper thefts in the city. For the past month the Wilmington Police Department has received more than 20 larceny reports involving copper being removed from air conditioner units. The majority of the incidents have happened at vacant houses, apartments, and or businesses throughout the city. Property owners and managers are asked to keep a close check on vacant properties. If possible turn lights on inside the property, leave a vehicle in the drive-way or have a neighbor to check on the property more frequently. Report any suspicious activity around vacant properties in your neighborhood.
