News: Rookie Stanley Pringle Learning The Ropes From New Globalport Teammate Denok Miranda Rookie guard Stanley Pringle believes the trade that brought veteran playmaker Dennis Miranda to GlobalPort for Solomon Mercado is a step in the right direction for the three-year-old franchise. Not that Pringle has anything personal against Mercado, but this seasons No. 1 draft pick overall said he’s learning a lot from Miranda in the short period he’s been with the Batang Pier. The 5-foot-10 Miranda came aboard for Globalport a few days after the New Year. “Hes been showing me a lot of what I can do and how I can pick my spots,” Pringle told Spin.ph. Pringle also noted Mirandas vast experience is definitely a plus for a young Batang Pier backcourt that was orphaned when Alex Cabagnot was shipped back to San Miguel toward the tail end of the Philippine Cup in exchange for Mercado. The stocky Mercado played for just a single game with Globalport before being sent to Barako Bull in a trade for Miranda. Of course, Pringle said Miranda and Cabagnot are different from each other. “They (Cabagnot and Miranda) are different types of players,” noted the 27-year-old former Penn State standout. “With Denok, hes a team player, hes smart. He can slow things down and he can attack really well.” Pringle, who averaged more than 14 points and six assists in the all-Filipino conference, knows the Batang Pier will have their hands full handling KIA Motors during their opening game in the Commissioner’s Cup as the Carnival will be parading 7-foot-4 import Peter John Ramos. However, the shifty Fil-Am guard is confident Globalport import CJ Leslies athleticism can give the Batang Pier the versatility the team needs in the wing spot. CJs very athletic off the dribble and hes a quick big, so other bigger bigs will have a hard time guarding him, he said. The Globalport-KIA Motors tussle kicks off the mid-season tournament on Tuesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
