News & Tips Ten places to hang out in ten cities across Croatia April 8, 2013 Print this page Rss Send by email Zvonimir Krstulovic By: Sinke Festivals, concerts, events and parties? Sounds great. But sometimes, you simply want to get out of your rented room and explore the city you’re visiting on your own. No plans and no pressure to be anywhere at some exact time. No tickets, no obligations. Just a night full of friends you haven’t yet met. And meet them you will, especially if you visit one of the following popular hang-outs. Maraschino Bar, Zadar In the past, maraschino liquor was used as a medicine to those in ill health. Today, it is a medicine used to cure boredom, and it comes in two versions. As a drink, and as a large nightclub in Zadar, featuring a terrace with a view on beautiful coastal town, home of Burning Sea open-air festival. For another cool place with the same name, check out Maraschino in Zagreb. Opium Club, Vodice Vodice translates as “Small waters,” but don’t expect much water in Opium Club. Also, what flows from the club’s bar, it doesn’t do so in small quantities. From champagne to colorful cocktails, Opium stays true to its name. Good company and a chic atmosphere guaranteed. Pink Champagne, Hvar Speaking of a champagne experience, we can’t miss the pinkish nightclub on Hvar. Designed by one of the most wanted Croatian interior designers, Duje Kaliterna, it makes every guest feel like royalty, with a glass instead of a scepter. Café Bar Buza, Dubrovnik Situated beneath the southern walls of the legendary city, with views of the surrounding Adriatic and the mysterious island of Lokrum, Buza is the perfect place for all the world’s romantics. Want to impress that special someone? Bring him or her to Buza at sunset. It will be cheesy for just the first two seconds. Tunel Nightclub, Rijeka Rijeka is an industrial city with a twist. Its lavish world of subcultures produced some of the greatest rock-groups Croatia has ever known. Why is this so? Find out by visiting Tunel, a known site for intellectuals, artists and in general those with good taste and and big brains. And also with a sense of good fun. Aruba Club, Pula Pula is so much more than an amphitheater and Roman shrines. For example, it has a nightclub called Aruba which is situated in a basement. A basement with a large outdoor terrace, to be more precise, and a very prominent restaurant called Pirate’s. In case your favorite singer has a gig in Aruba, chances are he will be dining there. Why not show up there and pass him or her some salt? Havana Club, Bjelovar While the real Havana is on the other side of the planet, that doesn’t mean glimpses of it don’t reach Croatia. The nightclub bearing its name resides in Bjelovar and offers great music, good drinks (shooters and beers included) and seductive hostesses. On more peaceful nights, Havana hosts stand-up comedians and provides a good laugh. Lemon Bar, Zagreb Imagine yourself surrounded by reconstructions of ancient sculptures as you drink your morning coffee next to a good book. That is Lemon Bar’s terrace, situated in the outdoor area of Zagreb’s Archeological Museum during the daytime. Now, imagine a pleasant club interior full of people having a good time. That is Lemon Bar’s inner locale in the nighttime. Be it with a book or people, you will be in a good company here. Disco Bar Cinema, Ilok It may be the only nightclub in Ilok, but Cinema knows its business pretty well. A couple of decades ago, it was the town’s movie theater. Now, it is a place to go to drink cocktails, enjoy some pizza or even spend a night, as the site serves as a hostel.
