The ferry will be powered by four Wärtsilä 20DF dual-fuel engines. Finnish engineering company Wärtsilä is delivering dual-fuel engines to an environmentally sound ferry in Denmark. The company has also announced the signing of a landmark long-term service agreement for an Australian power plant. Wärtsilä is supplying the main propulsion generating sets for the 100 meters long ferry which will operate between Jutland and the island of Samsø and will carry passengers, cars and trucks. The vessel, designed by the Danish OSK-ShipTech A/S, will be built for the Danish municipality Samsø Kommune by Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A. in Gdansk, Poland. The ferry will be powered by four Wärtsilä 20DF dual-fuel engines running on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and will have extremely low emission levels. It is the first gas fuelled ferry for a domestic route in Denmark. The vessel is scheduled to be operational in autumn 2014. Wärtsilä has also signed a ten-year service agreement with Energy Developments Ltd (EDL) of Australia to maintain the McArthur River Mine power plant. This is Wärtsiläs first major service agreement in the country. The 53 MW power plant is located in Australias Northern Territory. It supplies power to the McArthur River zinc mine, which is owned by the international mining resources company Xstrata. Electricity is generated by six Wärtsilä 34SG engines running on natural gas. The power plant will be fully operational by the end of 2013. — This is a landmark agreement, says Steve Jones, General Manager, Services sales, Wärtsilä Australia. — By providing availability guarantees for a power plant located in a remote area of Australia, we are highlighting the efficiency and reliability of the Wärtsilä equipment. wartsila VL
