Seven officers, including recently retired sergeant Ann Strachen, will each row 42,000 metres. Detective Constable Stuart Atkins is based at Solihull and is married to Ann. Ann and Stuart’s youngest daughter Iona was diagnosed with a brain tumour back in 2007 at the age of five. Iona underwent 10 hours of major surgery and six weeks of radiotherapy. Iona, now aged 11, has to have an MRI scan twice a year to monitor changes to the tumour. Ann said: “Stuart, Iona and I really appreciate the effort of these incredible people. It would be great for people to come along, cheer the team on and donate some cash if you can.”
