News coming from Spitfire Radio 30 Jun 2013 VIDEO: Peugeot 2008 crossover takes on Tamworth Snowdome Tamworth Snowdome was the unlikely venue for Peugeot to unveiled its new compact crossover, the 2008. Peugeot 2008 crossover at Tamworth Snowdome French car maker Peugeot went decidedly off-piste for the UK launch of its latest model. Tamworth Snowdome was the unlikely venue last week as the company unveiled its new compact crossover, the 2008. There were several raised eyebrows among the assembled motoring media when the scheduled test drive stopped-off at the popular Staffordshire winter sports complex. But the icy slope of the indoor hill proved the ideal place to showcase the 2008’s unique selling point – Peugeot’s high-tech Grip Control system. First seen on the company’s mid-sized 3008 crossover it will be standard issue on range-topping Allure and Feline versions of 2008 and proved its usefulness by making light work of the snow-covered 14-degree incline. The patented system offers extra grip in challenging terrains and driving conditions without the need for cumbersome 4x4 running gear, with settings for snow, off-road, sand and stability programme off as well as normal mode. Models with the system will also come fitted with all weather tyres in a package that offers some real all-year-round, go-anywhere capability. An 82bhp, 1.2 litre, three-cylinder power pack, paired with a five-speed manual transmission, needed working hard but proved perky enough and offers a very reasonable 57.6 miles per gallon for a petrol unit with carbon emissions of 114g/km. The 1.6 litre, 115bhp diesel with a six-speed gearbox proved more versatile and durable though, offering a more refined and relaxed drive with power coming easily when you put your foot down. This oil-burner also offers an impressive 70.6 miles per gallon and emissions of just 106g/km and should prove a popular choice when the 2008 hits the showrooms in July. Four spec levels will be available with entry level Access+ versions getting LED running lights, electric front windows, cruise control, manual aircon, stereo with aux-in socket, ABS brakes, stability control and six airbags. Active cars add fog lights, alloy wheels, multifunction touchscreen, USB and Bluetooth connectivity and DAB radio while Allure models also get rear parking sensors, ambient interior lighting, automatic headlights and wipers and electric windows all-round. The range-topping Feline comes in a choice of premium Calima or Mistral Ambiance trim with satnav, panoramic sunroof, and a second USB port. Prices start from £12,995 for the Access+ 1.2 petrol version and rise to £19,195 for the Feline 1.6 diesel with Mistral Ambiance trim.
