News from Ecops "" Welcome to the July E-Cops update from the Crime Investigation Department (CID) for Huntingdonshire. This month has continued to see some very challenging investigations with the team working hard to bring offenders to justice. Following a call from a concerned member of the public officers were able to catch three offenders unloading stolen property at night into a garage in Walnut Tree Drive, Huntingdon. These three have been on police bail whilst the full facts were established and evidence secured and have now been charged with theft from the new Wickes building site on St Peters Road, Huntingdon having stolen in excess of £5000 worth of tools and equipment belonging to the tradesmen. A protracted investigation into a 23 year old male having caused a 14 year old girl to stay away from their parents led to them being charged with child abduction. This investigation has been on going and has led to them being charged with further offences, ensuring protection of the public from someone who can only be described as a predator. Any parent concerned about communications/relationships their child/children may be having can seek advice via the internet link ceop.police.uk which is the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre. A former local resident of Ramsey who has spent years causing anti-social behaviour before a police imposed anti-social behaviour order led to them being sent to prison, returned to the area. This person went straight back to their old ways being drunk and trying to set fire to paper they had placed in someone’s letter box. They were quickly located and have been charged and remanded to prison waiting attendance at court for their crimes. A significant investigation into organised cloning of fuel cards and their being used in petrol stations up and down the country has been finalised this month with the offender having been charged with fraud offences. Shoplifting has remained an issue for us as a policing area. The newly formed shoplifting investigation team continues to make excellent impact on those committing these offences and continues to bring the majority of offenders to justice and has disrupted those offenders committing the majority of these offences to bring about reductions in these offences of over 25%. These offences target the livelihoods of our residents and will continue to be dealt with robustly. High visibility patrols continue to tackle this crime type. A fraud investigation where a member of the public purchased four mobile phones for £200 at a Car boot sale found that they were empty shells and worthless. Over three months an investigation occurred identifying a suspect with searches of their home address. Following an identification procedure the offender has been picked out resulting in them being charged with fraud offences. A robbery occurred on a walkway near to California Road, Huntingdon on the 16th July. Officers responded promptly to the report and after obtaining details used local knowledge to identify the possible suspects. Four persons were located at a premises nearby and arrested. They are now on police bail waiting identification procedures and further enquiries. Members of the public are advised of the importance of sticking to main streets when walking at night and to report any incidents to the police immediately in order that a prompt investigation can occur. One offence type causing issues at this moment are theft of pedal cycles. Please ensure your bikes are locked and secured at all times and that you note down the frame number. If possible taking a photograph of your bike on your phone or camera will assist in identifying your bike should you be unfortunate enough to have it taken. Work is continuing to identify those stealing these bikes and the people responsible for buying and selling them. Please be assured the team continue to work hard and are committed to bringing offenders to justice to keep Huntingdonshire a safe place to live and visit. I look forward to updating you next month. Yours Detective Inspector Jon McAdam Huntingdonshire Crime Manager ""
