This week Florence McCarthy & Margaret Vickers from Community Run emailed copies of THIS petition https://communityrun.org/petitions/stop-legislation-denying-human-right-for-aslyum-seekers and a covering letter to 41 Labor and Cross-bench Senators! In the letter they outlined the major weaknesses of the proposed legislation to change the Migration Act & Asylum Legacy bill. The petition had 3663 At least half of these Senators indicated they had received the email and were aware of the letter and the petition. In addition, they created a formal petition meeting Parliamentary rules and sent it to Senator Sarah Hanson-Young. She will present the petition to the Clerk of the Senate 3 hours before a session begins. The Senate sitting begins on Wednesday the 19th. There is also a chance the legislation wont be heard in this session of the Senate and will be rolled over to February so its not too late to sign the petition. In these times, none of us can afford to be passive and not involved. (Clicking like will not change the world. :) )
