News from the Strand Center for the Arts about two of our Guild members! The Strand Center for the Arts is proud to announce the opening of the exhibition “Leifheit & Lobdell” PLATTSBURGH, NY— The Strand Center for the Arts is proud to announce the opening of the exhibition “Leifheit & Lobdell,” a fine art show featuring the works of Diane Leifheit and Barry Lobdell. These artists will have work on display in The Strand Center for the Arts Main Gallery on 23 Brinkerhoff Street in downtown Plattsburgh from October 3rd to November 1st, 2014. The opening reception will be held in conjunction with the “First Weekends in Plattsburgh Art Walk” taking place Friday, October 3rd from 5 to 8 pm. This event is free to the public and refreshments will be served. Diane Leifheit is a North Country resident who works primarily out of Paul Smiths and Saranac Lake and a twelve year member of the Adirondack Artists Guild. Leifheit’s use of pastel creates subtle manipulations of color that generate depth and variety in her work. Leifheit states, “The box of used pastels I received as a very young artist was the beginning of my long love affair with color. Those early memories are nearly as dusty as the work I make on paper of the Adirondack people and its landscape.” Leifheit’s latest works include plein air paintings and a new series featuring portraits of local people. Barry Lobdell is a photographer who lives and maintains his studio in Saranac Lake. He is also a longtime member of the Adirondack Artists Guild. His part of this exhibition is a reprise of his “Roundabout” show, featuring new works as well as what was presented in the Artists Guild gallery in 2009. “Roundabout” is a series of photographs taken on and around ferry boats during the last 30 years. Several shots feature boats from the Lake Champlain Transportation Company. Lobdell’s work has won acclaim on the local, regional and national stages. Since 2003, Lobdell has shown many times in galleries throughout New York, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Vermont, Connecticut and Florida. Lobdell has won “Best in Show” awards in several Adirondack venues. The exhibition will be on view at The Strand Center for the Arts Main Gallery on 23 Brinkerhoff Street in downtown Plattsburgh from October 3rd to November 1st, 2014. The opening reception for “Leifheit & Lobdell” will be held in conjunction with the First Weekends in Plattsburgh Art Walk taking place Friday, October 3rd from 5 to 8 pm. This event is free to the public and refreshments will be served.
