News from the Sukma District of Chhattisgarh Beneath the immense wealth and glitter of many a developed nation of this world lies an ugly and horrible truth - this wealth was built on the corpses of the autochthones. White people from Europe descended upon the Americas and Australia like the bubonic plague and, by committing unspeakable genocides of the natives, acquired their lands rich in mineral resources. India is now going through similar horrors. The Indian State has dubbed the Adivasis Naxalites. Murdering or apprehending an Adivasi brings a police official an award and a promotion. In the village of Jangampal in Chhattisgarh lives an Adivasi farmer who goes by the name of Ayata. Ayata has his own tractor and is the father of two children. The Inspector General of police (IG) summoned him one day and accused him of being a Naxalite since, as the IG reasoned, how could Ayata live a good life in the village without being a Naxalite? The IG demanded that Ayata surrender and confess that he is a Naxalite, and gave him a weeks time. A week later, a posse of Police raided Ayatas house. Ayata was not home at the moment. The police abducted his wife Sukadi and fled. Adivasis felt insulted and enraged at such brazen behavior of the police. Fifteen thousand Adivasis descended upon the police station. Shamelessly denying that they ever abducted her, the police instead alleged that the Naxalites must have nabbed Sukadi. However the Adivasis were adamant and stayed put. Leading the protesters was Soni Sori, who served notice to the administration, warning that unless the police returned Sukadi by the evening, she along with other Adivasis would start a fast until death. The police returned Sukadi to the Adivasis in the evening. Thrilled by their astounding victory, the Adivasis returned to the village. Three days later, on 26th November, police and paramilitary forces attacked the village to teach the Adivasis a lesson for their sin of foiling the machinations of the police. They kicked the women of the village Atum in their breasts with their boots. They brutally assaulted the Adivasi men and women of Jangampal and other proximate villages. Fifteen Adivasis were picked up and imprisoned on charges of being Naxalites. Several Adivasi women went to the police station the next day. The Government refused to file a complaint by the Adivasi women. The injured Adivasis were admitted to Sukma hospital. They returned home yesterday. The Government is again refusing to file a complaint by the injured. Neither Chief Minister Raman Singh nor Home Minister Rajnath Singh has any time to meet with them. The reason such atrocities are being unleashed is this: Adivasis must be in mortal fear of the Indian State. So that the State can freely confiscate their lands and give them to Adanis, Ambanis, Jindals, and Tatas.
