News of the day.. Safe to install cell towers in city: Ex-WHO OFFICIAL.. Mumbai: Radiation specialist and former WHO official Michael Repacholi, who was in the city on Monday to take stock of a few cell tower sites, claims that it is absolutely safe to install mobile towers atop schools, colleges and hospitals in the metropolis. He emphasized that the radio frequency (RF) exposure from mobile towers neither causes cancer nor has any kind of adverse effect on children above two years of ago. - One absorbs 5 times more RF from FM radio or television than the base station tower. - RF exposure from base station is 0.002%-2% of the global norms set by ICNIRP - - Only a few epidemiological studies have been conducted but they have not found any evidence of cancer in children. (Me: However, the science and technology – where this country lags at least 100 years behind the West - is all led by village bumkin-kind anti-science lobbies and their writ runs here. We are more like the proverbial Tanjorean son-in-law who neither knows anything nor will he take sagely tips from others on how to conduct himself. Going by the logic of these worthies, why not ban FM broadcasting and television beaming?)
