News on a press release we made while the Sustainable Development Goals Open-Ended Working Group was finalizing its draft on SDGs which will be sent to the Post-2015 Development Agenda process. It is just unacceptable that States who voted for the adoption of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) suddenly would like to refer to indigenous peoples as indigenous and local communities. The one year work which the Indigenous Peoples Major Group co-organized by Tebtebba and the IITC and IIN, invested to put into the document key concerns and issues of indigenous peoples has been an uphill struggle. The final draft finally says indigenous peoples, but only mentioned this once, I think. I urge indigenous peoples at the national level to do whatever they can to get their governments to support the proposals of indigenous peoples in the Post-2015 Development Agenda. This agenda which will be agreed upon in a Global Summit in 2015, will define how development should be pursued for the next 15 years. This will be an agenda which governments will use as a framework until 2030.
