Newsday: Chance for Children to Learn Bike Safety: A program aimed at promoting bicycle safety for children will take place Wednesday in Seaford and next week in Amityville. State Sen. Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) and the New York Coalition for Transportation Safety are sponsoring a bike “rodeo” in Cedar Creek Park in Seaford Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Parents will be able to bring their children, along with the child’s bike and helmet, and receive safety training on a bicycle obstacle course as well as instructions on how to use hand signals and share the road with cars and pedestrians. Kids can also receive bike, helmet, brake and tire safety checks, along with information on state bicycle and helmet laws. The event will take place in parking field three, with a rain date Thursday. Another bike rodeo will take place at Park Avenue Elementary School in Amityville on Tuesday, Aug. 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a rain date of Aug. 21. Appointments are required and will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Parents can make an appointment by calling Fuschillo’s office at 516-882-0630. — DENISE M. BONILLA
