NewsdzeZimbabwe Our Zimbabwe Our News MASVINGO KOMBI DRIVER RAPES GIRL (14) Monday, July 29, 2013 NewsdzeZimbabwe 4 A 22-year-old commuter omnibus driver has been arraigned before the courts for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl who was on her way was to school in South Africa. Courage Madanha whose address was not given was not asked to plead to a charge of rape when he appeared before Chivi magistrate Mr Francis Mapfumo on Thursday. He was remanded in custody to today and advised to apply to the High Court for bail. For the State, Mr Nixon Chamisa told the court that on 11 July at about 6pm, the girl was accompanied by her mother to the bus stop from her home in Zvishavane. The court was told that she boarded a commuter omnibus, driven by Madanha to Ngundu where she intended to get a lift to South Africa via Beitbridge. When Madanha reached Chivi turn-off, he dropped off other passengers except the girl. He allegedly went on to tell the girl that he could not proceed to Ngundu since he did not have many passengers and it was already late. The court was told that the girl did not know what to do as it was late. Madanha then proceeded to Chivi Growth Point where he promised to get accommodation for her before taking her to Ngundu the following morning. At about 8pm, Madanha took the girl to a friend’s house at the growth point where he sought accommodation for the night, the court was told. The court was also told that the girl was to sleep in one of the rooms but was surprised when Madanha returned a few minutes later and switched off the lights. The girl queried why he had returned and wanted to sleep next to her on the same bed, the court heard. Madanha allegedly threatened to throw the girl out of the room if she dared resist his demands. He then allegedly forced himself on the girl and raped her three times during the night. The following day, he then took her to Chivi turn-off where she got a lift, a haulage truck, to South Africa. The court was told that when the girl arrived at her aunt’s place in South Africa, she narrated her ordeal. Her aunt quickly made a report to the police in that country who then communicated with their counterparts in Zimbabwe leading to Madanha’s arrest.
