Newsfeeds are starting to be filled with goals for the new year. - TopicsExpress

Newsfeeds are starting to be filled with goals for the new year. And although many roll their eyes at it, I think its great. Sure, many will not reach their goals, but its a start. Every change has to start with that desire. I struggled for many years with being overweight. Every year I set that same goal of wanting to lose weight. I then did what many others did. I set lofty goals like going to the gym every day and eat 1200 calories. By the end of January, I would have missed some days at the gym and was starving and would cave. I would then see myself as a failure in not reaching my goals. Then I would start the cycle over again a few months later. What made it finally click? Setting realistic goals. For someone that wasnt a regular in the gym, why would I set myself up for DAILY gym attendance. Start small. So for me that meant doing a Tae-Bo video 3 day a week. And guess what? It was only the instructional video! LOL I then decided to log my food to see where I was. Immediately, I made better choices simply by needing to log it in my calorie log. No foods were off limits, I just practiced moderation. Clothes started getting looser, scale was going down. I know I didnt lose it as fast as all my other friends doing fasts, cleanses and extreme measures, but 10+ years later, I have kept it off. Set realistic goals. Be realistic. Aim for sustainable and maintainable. -Amy
