News’ beloved Mr H to be honoured with civic funeral Pretoria News reporter Patrick Hlahla will be honoured with a civic funeral on Friday. The City of Tshwane said it had decided to give Hlahla – “Mr H” to colleagues and friends – a civic funeral in recognition of his news coverage over the past 30 years to reflect the broader Tshwane community. “This is in accordance with the city’s policy on civic funerals, which states that in exceptional cases, the executive mayor and the council can identify individuals worthy of such a privilege,” the city said. Pretoria News editor Val Boje thanked the metro council for the honour bestowed on Hlahla. She said it was an indication of the high regard the city had for him as a journalist, and the importance of reporting on local government. Hlahla’s family have also expressed their gratitude at the council’s gesture. The civic funeral will take place at 8am on Friday in Atteridgeville at the Mbolekwa Community Hall at the corner of Moroe and Sithole streets. Tomorrow, the city will hold a memorial service, in collaboration with Hlahla’s family and the Pretoria News, at 1pm at the City Hall.
